Collectors who shopped New York's Affordable Art Fair in May will get another chance when the fair returns to the city from Thursday to Sept. 25. But another group won't be returning: last season's artists.

"This fall, we'll be showing 31 new galleries and no repeat artists," said fair director Judith Pineiro, who examines applications to make sure there are none of the same works.

Affordable Art Fairs began in London 12 years ago and are now held in 10 locations around the world, with an 11th fair in Los Angeles planned for January. While definitions of "affordable" may vary, the 70-exhibitor New York fair requires that all work be priced between $100 and $10,000, with 75% of the work less than $5,000. In May, about 10,500 people came to the spring edition of the fair, where $2.2 million in sales were recorded.

The Rebecca Hossack Gallery will feature wallpaper with a twist. Australian multimedia artist Emma Hack places a model against wallpaper of bold design, then applies body paint to the model so that she blends into the wallpaper pattern, becoming almost invisible. The resulting photo sells for between $3,300 and $5,300, depending on the size.

New York's four-day fair will include panel discussions about building collections and a children's lounge, complete with buyable artwork made for children's rooms. "We try to be as open as possible," said Ms. Pineiro. "We want to take the mystery out of the art market."
