Thursday night saw the opening of Helen Flockhart's beautiful new show: Back To The Garden. We were delighted to open the night with the artist herself, who had made the journey all the way from Scotland.
Helen Flockhart’s rich, meticulously crafted paintings are charged with an averting power. It is a power that derives not merely from the extraordinarily detailed execution of each work, but also from the idiosyncratic imagery that the artist employs.
Flockhart’s paintings spring from the artist’s inner vision, she maintains, “they are sensed as much as seen.” Her visions inhabit a world – partly domestic, partly dream – at once familiar and disconcerting, and their relationship with this environment remains subtly out of balance.
