> G'Day UK Victorian Satellite Event – 7 July 2009

Guests at the Victorian Satellite event were taken on a journey to experience the sights and sounds of Melbourne in the heart of London as part of G’Day UK week last month.

Guests representing Victoria’s major trade and investment, food and wine, fashion and retail, tourism, skilled migration, conference and major events sectors were welcomed into the salon of an historic residence in London with a taste of Melbourne high culture in the form of a striking opera performance by Victorian Sally Wilson. Melbourne born, London based cultural attaché Rebecca Hossack hosted the evening, leading guests on voyage of discovery through themed rooms in the historic house.

During the evening, dynamic presentations were led by Victoria’s Minister for Industry and Trade, highlighted by a visual presentation of Victoria. The State’s strong global position in sectors including advanced manufacturing, biotech/life sciences, services, funds management and renewable energies was on show, as was the uniquely Melbourne lifestyle experience.

Etihad Airways spoke of the similarities between the Etihad and Melbourne experience. Both airline and destination provide the best in service quality, attention to detail and exquisite food and wine.

Victoria’s position as an attractive business destination was demonstrated through the recently-opened six star Melbourne Convention Centre and images of past Melbourne Cups - the race that stops a nation - reminded guests why Melbourne is often referred to as one of the major events capitals of the world.

No presentation of Melbourne is complete without reference to the city’s dynamic and creative fashion culture which offers shoppers a unique, bespoke and individual fashion experience. Finally, the food and wine enjoyed throughout the evening (including salt bush lamb from the Grampians), was meticulously prepared by one of Australia’s best chefs, Ian Curley, leaving guests in no doubt about the quality of food and wine, and Melbourne’s world renowned dining scene.

Guests returned to the salon to enjoy exquisite puddings in a transformed salon where the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival showcased six of Melbourne’s leading designers.

Diners at the function walked away with goody bags that included a drop from the Wimmera with a bottle of Mount Zero extra virgin Olive Oil, seasoning from Murray River Salt Flakes and diaries from the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
