> Jamie Boyd - Untitled: 11 May – 23 May 2009 AT Conway Street, London
'The most inspirational moments in painting, when the brush almost leads the hand, spring from a state of abandon. These moments come most often when painting from ever-changing nature or life. There is little room for contrivance and the risk of the paint becoming merely a means to an end.’
Jamie Boyd belongs to a great Australian artistic dynasty. The grandson of Merric Boyd and son of Arthur Boyd, he comes from a glittering line of painters, sculptors, potters and writers. Over the course of his own career, however, he has established both an individual voice and an independent reputation.
Born in Australia – in 1948 - but raised in England, he studied at the Central School of Art, London, in the late 1960s. Now, dividing his time between Australia and Europe, he explores the themes of landscape and the human figure in his intense, lyrical paintings.
His work is held in numerous corporate, public and private collections. This will be his second solo exhibition at the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery.
