> Abigail Mclellan - Flowers and Molecules: 19 March – 11 April 2009 AT Charlotte Street, London

Abigail McLellan
Anthurium Hearts
Acrylic on Canvas, 2006
40 x 40 cm (16 x 16 ins)

Abigail belongs to a golden generation of young Scottish Painters. Born in 1968, she studied painting at the Glasgow School of Art, developing an extraordinarily sure sense of both colour and design. Influenced by both the rich colourist tradition of Scottish art from Peploe to Craigie Aitchison, and the taut economy of the Japanese aesthetic, she has evolved her own very personal artistic language.

Her Luminously-coloured paintings of flowers and corals have the strength and simplicity of icons. While her idiosyncratic portrait work has also been highly acclaimed, twice being exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London as part of the BP Portrait Awards.

McLellan's work is held in many private and corporate collections, including the Fleming Collection of Scottish Art, London.
