Gilchrist Fisher Award
Artist Statement
The Gilchrist-Fisher Award, established in 1987, is open to any artist under the age of thirty whose work deals with the broad theme of landscape.
The award is both prestigious and valuable. The winner receives £3000, the runner up £1000 and all the short-listed artists are included in an exhibition at the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery in central London. Past prize-winners include Peter Doig, Alasdair Wallace and Alexander McKenzie.
The award was estabished in memory of Alasdair Gilchrist-Fisher, a brilliant Oxford graduate who died of cancer in December 1986 at the age of twenty-four. He was a remarkable young man with a very bright future. Soon after his illness was diagnosed he began a post-graduate art course, finding much joy in the discovery and exploration of landscape painting.
