Country is everything; it is the reason for existence, it is the thread that holds everything together. Country is the life’s blood of the Alyawarr people – not just a place to live but actually a “living” place. Their Ancestors, grandmothers and grandfathers rest here, their footprints cover the land and are added to by each new generation.
The artists of Ampilatwatja share with us a vision of what is most precious to them. Through their art they reveal their deep understanding and knowledge of country and the love and knowledge of the land that sustains them.
Ampilatwatja Landscapes are unfolding stories, encompassing the essence of Alyawarr people’s lives.The gift each artist offers is a portal into the past but also a comment on today and what is relevant to all of us now.
